Drugs Control Laboratory

  • Responsible for testing of samples of Drugs , Cosmetics and Whole Human Blood  under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
  • Assistant Director is the Head of the Laboratory .Senior Scientific Officer and Scientific officers, notified as Government Analysts are responsible for issuing reports of samples of Drugs and Cosmetics.
  • The Existing Capacity -Existing -6000 samples per year and Proposed to 12000 samples per year
  • The laboratory has the following divisions namely
    • Coding Division
    • Chemical -I Division
    • Chemical -II Division
    • Microbiology Division
    • Biology Division
    • Vitamin Division
    • Pharmacognosy Division
    • Cosmetics Division
    • Division for testing Whole Human Blood
  • The laboratory has also ancillary services like Hi-tech Instrument Section, Animal House, Stores and Administrative Section.
  • The   laboratory is provided with modern equipments.
  • The laboratory has staff from different disciplines like Pharmacy, Chemistry, Microbiology, Botany and DMLT.
  • The laboratory is participating in the collaborative work for establishment of National Standards   organised by Central Indian Pharmacopoeial Laboratory, Ghaziabad for amendments to be made in the Indian Pharmacopoeia.
  • The problems for research work are generally undertaken during routine analytical work. Some of the problems undertaken are published in reputed journals.
  • Laboratory officials actively participate as members of various committees and councils like Indian Pharmacopoeia Committee & sub-committees, Drugs Advisory Boards, Bureau of Indian Standards Committees etc.
  • The Laboratory is in process of getting NABL accreditation.
  • The Drugs Control Laboratory recently set up at Aurangabad.
